What do I need to use arc?
An iPhone (iPhone 12 or later recommended) and something to prop it up — a tripod, golf bag, water bottle, or any stable surface. No additional hardware, sensors, or accessories required.
How do I set up for a session?
Prop your phone about 8-15 feet from your hitting position, angled to see your full swing. Tap "Start Session." Green brackets will appear when arc can see you. Start swinging — arc detects each swing automatically.
Does arc work at a busy range?
Yes. arc uses 60Hz wrist velocity tracking to distinguish YOUR swing from your neighbor's. Audio from adjacent bays is filtered out. The system is designed for noisy, crowded range environments.
How accurate are the speed estimates?
Club head speed and ball speed are estimated from wrist velocity, LiDAR depth (on supported devices), and lever ratios. They are approximations — not launch monitor measurements. They are useful for tracking relative changes session to session, not for absolute calibration.
Do I need an internet connection?
No for core use. Swing detection, pose analysis, biomechanics, and ARC's default coaching path run on-device, so you can use most of the app in airplane mode. An internet connection is only needed for optional cloud sync, account and waitlist flows, or if you explicitly enable an optional third-party AI provider route with your own account.
How do voice commands work?
Say "Hey Arc" followed by a command. Examples: "Hey Arc, coach" for instant coaching, "Hey Arc, how many shots" for your count, "Hey Arc, 7 iron" to select a club. Voice processing happens on-device — audio is not recorded or transmitted.
What are the coaching labels?
arc detects common swing faults and labels them in plain English: "Over the Top", "Early Release", "Jerky Tempo", "Early Extension", "Hanging Back." These are the same terms your golf coach would use. Labels only appear when the fault is detected with sufficient confidence.
Where is my data stored?
All session data, swing clips, and biomechanics are stored locally on your iPhone by default. Nothing is uploaded to our servers unless you explicitly enable cloud sync or choose to share something. Summarized coaching request data is only sent to a third-party AI provider if you explicitly enable that route with your own provider account. See our Privacy & Model Improvement page for details.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete individual sessions or all data from within the app. To request deletion of cloud data, waitlist data, or optional model-improvement contributions, visit our data deletion page or email [email protected].
Do you use my data to train models?
Using arc does not give us blanket permission to train on everything you do in the app. Our default posture is that capture, replay, analytics, and coaching stay on-device or inside the product experience unless you explicitly choose otherwise. If we use optional feedback, corrections, or benchmark labels to improve models, we describe that on our Privacy & Model Improvement page and provide a request path to remove eligible contributions from future training.
Does arc use third-party AI providers?
ARC uses Apple Foundation Models by default when available. If you explicitly enable the optional Claude route and provide your own API key, ARC may send summarized coaching request data such as recent metrics, club or drill context, session goals, and questionnaire or coach-note text you chose to provide for coaching. ARC does not send raw camera video, raw microphone audio, or raw LiDAR/depth frames as part of that optional provider flow.
What iPhone models are supported?
arc requires iOS 18 or later. iPhone 12 and later are recommended. LiDAR features (improved distance estimation) require iPhone 12 Pro or later. For best results, use an iPhone with the latest iOS.
Does arc work with Apple Watch?
Yes. If you have an Apple Watch, arc can use watch motion data to corroborate swing detection and support watch-linked performance context. The watch is optional — arc works fully without it. For more detail on how watch-linked data is handled, see our Privacy & Model Improvement page.
arc isn't detecting my swings
Check that: (1) Green brackets are visible (arc can see you), (2) Your phone is stable and not moving, (3) You're positioned 8-15 feet from the camera, (4) Microphone permission is granted in Settings. If on a busy range, move to reduce audio interference from adjacent bays.
Voice commands aren't working
Ensure: (1) Microphone permission is granted, (2) Speech recognition permission is granted (Settings → arc → Speech Recognition), (3) You're saying "Hey Arc" clearly before the command. At noisy ranges, speak louder or use AirPods for better microphone input.
Biomechanics data is missing
Biomechanics require clear visibility of your full body. Ensure: (1) Camera can see you from head to feet, (2) Lighting is sufficient, (3) You're not too far from the camera (pose detection works best at 8-15 feet). Some metrics require ≥3 swings to compute.
